Japanese tea is seen as an inseparable part of Japanese culture, with a history of production and practices that started centuries ago. Over time, changes in tea traditions and practices have given rise to various schools of tea, cafes, and casual enjoyment. However, the pervasiveness of tea in Japanese culture continues to this day. This program offers you the opportunity to understand and experience Japanese casual tea culture, which focuses on relaxation, enjoyment, and socializing while appreciating the flavors and aromas of tea. It provides a more accessible way for individuals to incorporate tea into their daily lives beyond the formalities of the tea ceremony (Chanoyu). In Japan, having tea allows guests to take a break from the outside world and immerse themselves in the simple, transient moment of serving and drinking tea. With this in mind, we invite you to join us at the Japanese Friendship Garden for their newest offering: Tea Tours! The program includes a lecture where you can taste samples of popular Japanese casual teas like Sencha, Hojicha, and Genmaicha. After the lecture, you can choose one of the samples and enjoy a full cup of tea along with a traditional Japanese sweet. The lecture takes place in the welcoming foyer of our traditional tea house, "Musoan." The experience continues with a guided tour of our tranquil Roji, a beautiful tea garden, where you can admire the Japanese tearoom from the Roji. $50.
